To the impressionable anon: "impressionable" doesn't equal "I am modeling my entire future love life on this and using it as a set of instructions." Sometimes that happens, but more often it is internalized impressions. You may have noticed that this blog seems to be less full of hilarious Rpattz gifs and more full of my personal anti-Twilight beliefs lately. And that is, whether you like it or not, where this blog is headed. Only because, given the fact the Twilight franchise is over, the amount of self-loathing our dear Rob is spewing has drastically decreased.

If you’re not interested in reading my various rants/diatribes/fighting with anons you can either tumbr savior the tag “let’s rock talk” (which I tag all our asks with) or you can simply unfollow us. We’ll be sad to see you go but given the fact the content isn’t what to used to be, we understand.

However, if you’re interested in seeing what we have to say and learning more about the problematic themes running through the Twilight franchise, then please stay and hang around! We adore you guys. We just got thirteen messages that were outpourings of love and support and that’s just awesome.

There will still be as many funny gifsets and quotes as we can find (or you send us). We will do our very best to bring you as much self-loathing as we can find. There will also be some arguments thrown in there as well, because I just love a good sassfest.

Clearly, you haven’t seen the nine million posts I’ve made about putting an emphasis on strong female role models and kicking the media in the ASS about bringing characters of that ilk to the forefront of their programming, but thanks for playing!

Tell that to the generation of girls my age who grew up wanting to be Hermione Granger. What you put into your brain during your formative years has MASSIVE psychological impact. I know because I know them. I’ve been to signings and events. I’ve held countless conversations with Twihards. And I’ve got a lot of converts.

Look. I am not telling ANYONE not to read Twilight, or to see the movies. They’re a guilty pleasure and everyone deserves their guilty pleasures (or not-so-guilty). But it’s problematic and people should be educated about it. If you don’t like that, why on EARTH are you talking to me?

Though I've had minimal exposure to the books or movies, I feel it must taken into account that these are works of FICTION. There are plenty of books with misogynistic themes, and plenty of books chalked full of poor role models. Whether someone reads a book about a damsel in distress or a child rapist, it doesn’t matter; readers aren’t forced to assume the persona of a character they read about.

Find me one book in which a child rapist is painted with same heroic brush that Edward is.

People are free to read whatever they please. Would you rather the books be burned than read?

I would like the books read with the grain of salt that simply isn’t there. Fiction is fiction and people can write what they like and read what they like - what bothers me is the cultural phenomenon of Twilight that blatantly disregards the EXTREMELY CREEPY nature of their relationship and paints it as the perfect romance. What bothers me is that no one is willing to step up to the plate and publicly bring these issues forward because the media creams it’s jeans over anything and everything Twilight because the fanbase is MASSIVE and the franchise is worth millions of dollars.

And the fact that the writing is flat-out awful. That too.

It's also worth noting that upon finding out that Bella is pregnant, almost the first thing Edward does is try to take AWAY Bella's choice. He never asks her if she's okay. He never asks her what she wants. He doesn't even consult Bella before making plans with Carlisle for an abortion. (Which is of course in large part Meyer setting up a pro-choice strawman argument for her pro-life heroine to smash, though it's also consistent with Edward's abusive, controlling behaviour.)

the whole point of feminism is choice, therefore bella choosing to keep her baby instead of aborting it doesnt mean she is anti-abortion at all, its just what she decided to do. not everyone who has children is agaisnt abortion. and if you didnt notice edward doesnt want bella to keep the baby because it is killing her, but he loves bella and trusts that they can save both her and the baby. im not directing this only at you guys but just giving another perspective on the issue

let me make it real clear: while we are decidedly pro-choice, bella’s decision to keep her baby isn’t a reasons why twilight is anti-feminist. keeping a baby that is killing you, while crazy to ME, may not be crazy to you and that’s totally acceptable. being pro-choice doesn’t mean having abortions, it means supporting the right of others to do so.

HOWEVER i do think that stephenie meyer, religious wackjob that she is, took a 100% pro-life stance in her book. and i’m not crazy about that.

I think that last anon also doesn't know that Fifty Shades of Grey was originally a Twilight fanfiction. So if they're going to point to it as an example of media that insults and degrades women, they need to admit that Twilight does too.

My father is a screenplay writer. I’ve been involved in the business my entire life. And what sells is what Hollywod tells you that you want. I can 100% blame the film industry for promoting shittiness because they are in a position of power and have a huge opportunity to present our country with worthwhile values and educate the public about important issues. Instead, they are only interested in making money, and when something like Twilight comes along, something chock full of rape culture and misogyny but making money regardless - they will beat this pale, sparkly horse for many, many years. And there will be young people out there who watch byproducts of this and think “I want a relationship like that, because the movies glorified it, it must be healthy.”

Robert hating Twilight is the subject of this blog. So I guess, in that respect, it is a hate blog. However, the anti-Twilight sentiment on this blog isn’t hate - it’s educating people about why it’s problematic. If my responses were “LOLOL TWILIGHT SUX”, then it’d be hate. “This is rape culture and here’s why” is education.

This is rape culture.

Young women are taught to think of this passage - which describes sexual assault - as erotic. Young men are taught to force their will on young women, regardless of any (non)verbal cues, because sex is conquest and women are objects - not something to be done between two consenting individuals because it’s pleasurable for both people.

The most frightening thing about this excerpt is that many survivors of sexual assault who have disclosed to me describe stories that sound exactly like this one.

If she feels that her writing skills are not up to snuff get a trusted grownup/parent to help her with the wording. By ccing the principal you force everyone to take action cover their butts. Leave a paper trail. Sending good thoughts.

It's pretty related to the abuse/stalking in Twilight, but many other novels/movies that are claimed as romantic and oh so sweet glamorize stalking (for example, and I know many people don't want to hear this, The Notebook in which Noah threatens to kill himself if Allie doesn't go out with him etc) and the fact that men stalking women is so normalized as romantic (he only does it because he loves her so much) is frightening. This may be why so many people don't recognize/deny it for what it is.
